The Purbloc® Nano Extended Barrier active BIOSAFE was developed and registered with the EPA in the late 1960’s / early 1970’s and had since been widely utilized in numerous applications.

Original chemistry was developed by Dow Chemical for the Department of Defense (DOD) to meet criteria of protecting the troops that may be deployed to unfamiliar, uncontrolled environments and exposed to unknown microorganisms throughout the world. Additionally, there was a need to limit the spread of infectious contaminants in enclosed environments.

As the technology was developed, efficacy validated, Dow Chemical elected not to submit to the DOD and moved away from their solution, as it did not meet corporate sales models and profitability studies.

Later, Dr. William Peterson from Arizona State University discovered the chemistry recognizing various market applications, acquired the chemistry and advanced the safety profile.

BIOSAFE has expanded the breadth of applications and manufacturing processes by removing the VOC’s and making the product available in a polymeric powder. The powder, similar to its solvent based predecessors, can be formulated into coatings, but unlike its predecessors, can be compounded with polymer resins.

RS Technologies discovered Dr. William Peterson and the chemistry while searching for components to incorporate into their Nano Technology chemistry for their pool products and tile/stone cleaners, sealers and coatings. After working with the chemistry for nearly three years they were able to integrate the chemistries into their proprietary Nano Technologies for pool and tile and stone products.

In unison RS Technologies developed Purbloc® Nano Extended Barrier and a suite of products available under the Purbloc brand. The Purbloc® Nano Extended Barrier can be applied to virtually any surface. Once applied a covalent bond is formed to any substrate or fibrous material.


Q: What does Purbloc® Nano Extended Barrier do?

When properly applied, dries to an invisible barrier that forms a covalent bond to the surface creating a bed of positively charged swords that impart a protective shield. This shield imparts a bacteriostatic, fungistatic and aligistic surface to prevent deterioration and discoloration. It is durable, leach resistant and non-migrating. Does not create conditions that promote the development of resistant microorganisms.

Inactivates and destroys pathogens through a mechanical process, when in contact with pathogens produces cellular wall disruption. The wall is broken and ruptured. No transfer of chemical or chemical residue occurs. The barrier is not depleted and remains active on the treated surface. It is durable, leach resistant and non-migrating. Does not create conditions that promote the development of resistant microorganisms. The patented additive is proven effective against envelope viruses, including other pathogenic microorganisms on porous and non-porous surfaces, for up to 90 days.

Can be applied to virtually any porous and non-porous surface with a trigger sprayer, pump sprayer, fogger or electro-static sprayer. Some surfaces can be wiped down with a clean microfiber cloth saturated with Purbloc® Nano Extended Barrier.
